I think it was The Times that ran an article mentioning that, theoretically, everyone who was caught laughing at a joke the Scottish Devolved Assembly disapproved of could potentially be found guilty of a hate crime. The situation becomes even more dystopian when we consider that there was talk of indicting everyone at a football match at which sectarian chants were heard. Last weekend, I understand that would have meant 48 000 convictions... This is what happens when, as you point out, we start mistaking feelings for arguments.
