Even though I am critical of Murray, I agree with you about the potential consequences of such a law for comedy. I myself like humor on the edge of good taste. Many people don't seem to realize that expressing negative emotions (e.g. about a joke) is not in itself a valid argument. For humorous reasons, you could take the Scottish law you mentioned even further: shouldn't the person who laughs about an offensive joke be punished in the same way as the person who makes the joke? After all, laughter can also be hurtful if someone laughs at you... I don't know why, but this silly idea has kind of a dystopian vibe.

I’ve only read a tiny bit about this new law but you helped put it in perspective here. It would appear that they’ve started SMOKING their haggis over there.
