Another great column. Really interesting re some problems regarding with how we think. The point about experts and confidence was quite interesting and reminded me something, I think, it was called calibration tests... where you are asked to answer questions with 90% and in ranges (how many people are born in the UK each year and you answer with a range).... the range can be as large as one wants to .... people do really poorly on such tests.
I really enjoyed your points re regression to the mean because these are often ignored when talking about programs that reform individuals.
What if you have a photographic memory? I see in pictures. I can visually recall conversations nearly word for word. I can recall pages from books I’ve read, sometimes even the page number. I can recall what people were wearing from decades ago. Dreams are like films. Sometimes I’ll visualize while I’m reading and can get the visual wrong because my interpretation was wrong. I get concepts quickly and tire of the minute detail people get into explaining their theories, many times propping up their theories with political word salads. You titled your piece crime and psychology, yet you refer to a moment in history where important info was taken to Rice, a strong intimate advisor, over Bush as if, what, a crime? No other details, was Bush even in the country?, etc. I refer to this as propaganda and possibly psyop. I immediately distrust anything you say after this. However, I do agree with your boorish explanation of people’s tendency to rationalize to protect their fragile egos making it up as they go along. With leaders who say one thing and do another, spread lies knowing full well they’re lies for political expediency, where in today’s world the people running our country are so incompetent, their sheep clothing is tattered and shredded exposing the wolves underneath, yet they continue with the charade because they know social engineering, dumbing down and indoctrination over the past several decades, is working. When “Science”is veiled in political ideology, I immediately dismiss it, looking at everything that was said with a scant eye.

, I think that…nope, I’ll wait for more data before giving my theory ! 😂 It was fascinating and that’s a fact, Sir 😊 thanks
Thank you, Lauren! I’m glad you liked it.
